The Band
“Show me an afterlife where I’m free,” demands New Orleans four-piece, the Bloomies, in a paradoxical blend of free-spirited wanderlust and existential frustration that's become their trademark. They've honed this unique tone since 2017, when front man and lead writer Nicky Pollet cut the first demos in Baton Rouge before it became the sound and lineup known today.
Pollet met guitarist Avery Legendre through family friends, and they started jamming and sharing songs even as Legendre and drummer Zach Nance did the same while slumming at the local pizza corporation. When Pollet relocated to New Orleans in 2019, he met bassist Geoffrey Tallis at a party and bonded over music.
In May 2021, the quartet convened for their first practice. What emerged was a blending of beach, blues, and folk rock into a sound characterized by longing self-deprecation set against a bright tonal palette. Melodic yet syncopated rhythms lay a foundation of movement for gritty vocals as flowing, emotive lead riffs confront the listener head-on.
The Bloomies have been playing live shows in the Crescent City ever since, performing alongside bands like the Veldt, headlining the first night of Getaway Fest, and getting airplay on college radio. Last spring, they released their debut EP, Are We Even Here.
